LECTURE: THE EVOLUTION OF AI
This lecture will start out with an introduction to Artificial Intelligence (including sub areas such as Machine Learning and Deep Learning). The lecturers will take the participants on a historical journey that gives insights into the evolution of AI over the past six decades. We will go through definitions of the different terms used in the field and give a gentle introduction to one of the most powerful AI algorithms we know of today: Deep neural networks.
LECTURE: RECURRENT NEURAL NETWORKS
The second lecture will give participants an introduction to how textual data can be processed using so-called recurrent neural networks. The lecturers will give a light explanation of how and why RNNs work so well for analyzing text at scale and will present concrete demos of how to set up sentiment analysis experiments based on large amounts of text data as well as how to generate natural sentences based on the trained model’s understanding.
WORKSHOP: USING AI TOOLS
The first workshop will introduce the participants to the tools used by professional data scientists, including Python, Jupyter, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras, etc. We will be working in Paperspace, which is a software-as-a-solution that hosts all of these tools and makes it easy to get started with developing deep learning algorithms. We will use Paperspace to train a state-of-the-art neural network for classifying and labelling images at scale.
WORKSHOP: SETTING UP RNNS
The participants will return to Paperspace and follow a tutorial on how to set up a recurrent neural network (specifically, a so-called Long Short-Term Memory network) and train it on various public datasets (including movie reviews from IMDb). After having trained the network, the participants will learn how to evaluate the model’s performance, sensitivity and its predictive power on new, unseen data.
LECTURE: SPEECH/AUDIO RECOGNITION
The third lecture will cover the area of speech/audio recognition using convolutional neural networks as well as recurrent neural networks (covered in Lecture 2). The lecturers will give a light theoretical introduction to how CNNs works and why they work so well for processing structured data (such audio streams and images). The theory will be used to build a demo of a simple digital voice assistant (like Siri, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant).
LECTURE: MATURING AND DEPLOYING MODELS
The fourth and final lecture will cover the topic of maturing and deploying models in production as well as how to monitor models over time. The lecture will show how to set up pipelines that provide traceability across the model development and deployment flow and how to design efficient processes for governing and controlling models that run in production. We will use a variety of opensource tools that integrate with enterprise data platforms (such as Hadoop, Spark, BigQuery and more), which the organizations of the participants might already have in place.
WORKSHOP: BUILDING DIGITAL VOICE ASSISTANTS
This workshop will focus on converting the theoretical introduction to speech recognition into concrete applications of both CNNs and RNNs with the purpose of building small digital voice assistants. The lecturers will provide public datasets that the participants will use in Paperspace to develop their very own assistants.
WORKSHOP: SETTING UP ML PIPELINES
The fourth and last workshop will guide the participants through the process of setting up robust ML pipelines for training, evaluating, deploying and monitoring models in a scalable and reproducible manner.
Meet the Faculty
Anna Cappi, Learning Manager at Talent Garden Innovation School
Born in Sweden and educated at Lund University, Anna holds a Ph.D. in History of Ideas with a minor in Education Studies. She has more than a decade’s worth of experience as a course director, learning designer and lecturer from both Sweden and France. She is passionate about talent development, education and about ideas – their origins, dissemination and innovative ideas that spark change.
Michael Sass Hansen
Michael Sass Hansen holds a Ph.D. degree in Medical Image Analysis and an M.Sc. degree in Applied Mathematics from the Technical University of Denmark. He has been researching at Harvard University for two years during his postdoctoral studies in addition to having completed research stays at the Technical University of Madrid, the Technical University of Munich and Imperial College London. During Michael’s academic career he achieved a range of successes, including several high-impact research results published in the world’s leading journals as well as two Elite Research Prizes awarded by the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science.
In addition, Michael has worked in the industry where he has developed solutions for autonomous driving and robot process automation in the agricultural sector as well as models for biometric verification using AI.
At Brainsquad, he is applying his deep knowledge in Artificial Intelligence and Image Analysis to help customers gain a competitive edge through solutions that both help save costs and improve end-user experiences.
Sebastian Brandes holds an M.Sc. degree in Economics and Quantitative Methods from the Carlos III University of Madrid and has worked for Microsoft where he has held various position in Microsoft’s consulting and technical evangelism divisions in Denmark. Sebastian has worked with nearly all of the companies listed in the NASDAQ OMXC20 index, which include companies such as Coloplast, Danske Bank, DSV, Pandora and Ørsted, and therefore has a lot of experience with different business environments and IT landscapes.
Sebastian’s last position at Microsoft was IoT Lead in the Developer Experience and Evangelism division where he worked with innovative customers in the adoption of Microsoft’s offerings in the Internet of Things space. Working with customers who actively sought out new technology with the purpose of transforming their business inspired Sebastian to take the leap and become an entrepreneur and build specific products to help organizations adopt new technologies such as AI and IoT.
