From the West Coast of the US to the East Coast of Spain

My name is Remington Zona and I was born in Southern California where I grew up my entire life. After high school, I enrolled in the University of Arizona hoping to one day be in the business school. Three years later, I got accepted into the Eller College Of Management and am on my way to becoming a Finance major. After my time at the University of Arizona I want to continue my studies and focus on attaining a law degree somewhere along the west coast of the United States.

I wanted to come to Barcelona this summer for many reasons. One of the main reasons I wanted to come to Barcelona was because I have never been to Europe prior to this and I knew it would be an amazing experience. Many of my friends have come to Barcelona over the last couple years and all of them told me I absolutely had to go before college was over. Another reason I wanted to come to Barcelona was for the work experience. Internships are highly valued in the United States and the competition to obtain internships is very high. Once I heard that I would be able to both get an internship and experience one of the best cities in the world, there was no way I could say no!

Once I arrived in Barcelona, I must admit I was a little nervous. I speak very little Spanish and was not used to the culture I was suddenly put in. Public transportation was not something I was used to and took me a couple days to understand the train and metro systems. The differences in work culture between Barcelona and the United States also caught me off guard. In the United States, the work environment is much more strict and structured. On the contrary, the work environment in Barcelona gives you much more freedom to be creative and explore different options. I like this Barcelona culture much more because I believe it leads to a more productive and creative work environment.

I have not been in Barcelona very long but the city is absolutely beautiful. The old architecture and the way the buildings are built is something that completely shocked me. Coming from southern California I have seen many beaches in my life but the beaches here in Barcelona are breathtaking. I have already been to the beach many times and can happily spend an entire day there. My time in Barcelona has been an amazing experience so far and I can only imagine it getting better as I continue to learn more about the city and it’s culture. I only have two months here so my goals are to immerse myself within the cities culture and to be a productive employee and gain some great experiences working for Talent Garden Barcelona.
