Who is a UI Designer, and what does a UI Designer do?

Who is a UI Designer, and what does a UI Designer do?

A UI Designer is a professional who successfully creates great user experiences for their user base. They know their users and work alongside them – through research and continuous testing – to create amazing digital interfaces that give them their desired results.

A UI Designer is often the figure in charge of everything concerning the visual and interactive part of a web product, app, smartwatch and digital TV. All design and interfaces that the user interacts with are there thanks to the UI designer. These moments are crucial as they usually represent the very first impact with any brand. The UI Designer’s work guides the user inside interfaces in products, showing them clearly and precisely where they can find what they are looking for exclusively through it.

Are UI jobs in demand?

The user experience job market has grown over 70 % in the last year, and it is showing no signs of slowing down. This course offers great opportunities for career advancement. From an entry-level position to a highly specialized role, you have the opportunity to scale your career with Graphic design and UI skills, leading to more responsibilities. It’s also a vital skill set for anyone who has dreamt of having their own website, app or e-commerce.

This course is the perfect opportunity to understand the behind-the-scenes of the world of User Experience. During 6 weeks, you will learn the fundamentals of Graphic Design and UI, as well as the latest tools to help you kickstart a career in UI Design.

By the end of the course you will have acquired the following competences:

  • You will be able to handle the basic development and production of user interfaces based on a given presentation. Moreover, you will learn to go through the steps of a design sprint, from understanding the problems your users are experiencing, to empathizing with your users to decide exactly what problem to solve, to ideating for solutions, choosing one to prototype and finally testing it and iterating the entire process to make it even better.
  • You will be able to participate in practical interdisciplinary work processes with a systematic approach to design UI that demonstrates an understanding of why users do as they do.
Gain knowledge on how and when to nudge users and how this is used in a sustainably ethical manner.
  • Most importantly, you will acquire new skills and techniques in graphic design and user interfaces, thus you will be able to design creative and effective UI that delivers positive user experiences.

And so much more!

I think the course gave me good tools in what I’m doing right now because being an entrepreneur is about combining a lot of different skills together. And now we are for example working on our own website so I actually now have the knowledge on how the page should look like , what to focus on . Developing our persona for our brand. So the course on UX research was actually super helpful because now I know how to approach it , what to look at , where to find people to ask questions.

I would say I really liked the course because our teachers were also working in the industry so we could get real life examples and relevant (the latest) knowledge from them.

For maybe a year now I have been interested in becoming a UX/UI Designer and I am so grateful that Talent Garden Innovation School has provided me with this opportunity. It’s been an amazing journey where I got to combine my previous knowledge, but also to develop new skills- such as working in Figma. While I know I am far from being a professional, I know that my eagerness and ambition to learn are what will aid me into becoming one.
